Job Introduction

As we win more work and the business continues to grow, we are looking to increase our workforce. We are looking to hire people within our Surface Treatments Division to assist in the delivery of highways projects.  

Colas has years of experience and expertise in repairing, protecting, and extending the usable lifespan of infrastructure roads, footways and other surfaces. When roads surfaces develop ruts and deformations, have water problems and where skid resistance starts to fall, our affordable, innovative and unique specialist surface treatment solutions will help maintain safety standards and extend the life of roads by up to 10 years.

Main Responsibility

We are seeking experienced Micro-Surfacing Operatives preferably with HGV2 licenses to work within our Specialist Surface Treatments division as part of one of the Process Teams delivering Micro Surfacing Solutions to Colas clients. The work is physical and outdoors but it’s also rewarding. You’ll be part of a crew, delivering work that improves communities and local infrastructure.

Day to day, you’ll install/remove Traffic Management as required; prepare roads for surface treatment including protection of iron work; and safely carry out road repairs and improvements using various surface treatment processes.

The role will require you to stay away from home. We operate a variety of shift patterns, but you’ll need to be flexible and able to stay away in mobile accommodation. Because the work is delivered across the UK, we can be flexible on where you’re based but ideally, you’ll be in/near one of the following geographies:

Newcastle upon Tyne; Grimsby; West Yorkshire; North Wales; Grantham; Trowbridge; Kent, Liverpool, The Wirral or Sheffield

This involves working in various locations within the UK, including every other weekend during the main season. Colas will provide mobile accommodation and you will receive a subsistence payment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for flexible / hardworking individuals who, ideally, have experience in similar highways maintenance roles and HGV 2/1 driving or plant/machinery experience. You will be comfortable working within a small team, under minimal supervision. You’ll be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and the public.

Most importantly is that you enjoy working outdoors, in all weathers, within a crew on a flexible working pattern.

It is essential you will hold a Valid UK Driving Licence and  preferably a HGV 1/2 Licence and it would be an advantage if you have any of the following qualifications:   

  • CPC
  • CSCS Card
  • NRSWA
  • NVQ (Micro Surfacing/Road Building)
  • Traffic Management T1/T2
  • Banksman
